Decoration : this has two of Nye’s signature ‘square geometric mosaics’ separated by a pair of broader central bands; the individual tesserae include some very finely grained pieces with intricate patterns which. on other pieces. are used to approximate the scales on butterfly wings; plain to the four sides and internally. labelled to the unlined base as above – the watchwords for this box are ‘small but perfectly formed’ – a very nice example of Nye’s work

Condition : Excellent; all tiles present and firmly seated; some very fine gaps to the joining edges; a little blue/green staining internally – possibly wax
