Decoration : A hinged lid with a border of small ‘van Dyke’ triangles within banded keylines. surrounding three squares made up of intricate geometric patterns; plain sides to the body; a single void inside. relined with marbled paper; to the base what would seem to be original marbled paper; working lock and key
Size : 19.0 cm x 6.7 cm x 5.9 cm
Condition : Excellent; all tiles in place with just some very fine shrinkage or expansion cracks between a few elements; a few negligible bumps and scratches. mentioned only for accuracy
Restoration : Relined as above
Weight : 226 grams
Notes : This piece shares common features with other items that can be readily attributed to Edmund Nye. though it should be remembered that members of the Burrows family have also been identified with stylistically similar examples; it does however lack the full range of tesserae with the very finest graining which the latter were wont to use.
