Heading : Large Tunbridge Ware Bookslide Featuring Eridge Castle

Origin : Tunbridge Wells. Kent.
Decoration : To one end. a symmetrical. floral motif; to the other a somewhat stylised image of Eridge Castle which has been attributed to the Burrows family of Tunbridge Ware makers; rosewood frame with the mosaic end-pieces set within golden satinwood. Carrying handles routed in to both end panels.
Size : 12.5 cm wide; 38.6 cm closed. extending to 68.0 cm at fullest extent
Condition : Very good; a few very sparse missing tesserae. one area of three contiguous tiles to one of the mosaic borders and a couple of patches to the floral motif; there is a small shaped insert missing to the base of one section. the absence of which means that the two parts can be completely disarticulated – this could very easily be replaced if required.
Restoration : Professionally cleaned and polished

Notes : Eridge Castle was a popular motif for the Tunbridge Ware designers; this version – with its distinctive ‘pointed’ doorway – has been attributed to the Burrows family
