Origin : Tunbridge Wells; Kent – typical of the manufacturer Edmund Nye and his successor. Thomas Barton
Decoration : The top face of the two-piece box features a Penny Red stamp set inside a banded and continuous keyline and surrounded with a simple three-square wide geometric band; similar three-square and five-square bands. set within continuous keylines. appear on all four sides of both the top and bottom sections.
Size : 3.6 cm wide. 3.9 cm high and 2.0 cm deep
Condition : Very good; not a single missing tesserae to the bands; the lacquer has flaked a little but is largely intact

Weight : 10 grams
Notes : This box is absolutely in the style of Edmund Nye. but as the stamp post-dates his death (in 1863) it should more properly be attributed to his successor Thomas Barton. Obviously. in the same way that any applied printed ephemera cannot definitively date the item to which it is affixed. the
