Decoration : Two part box and cover. Cover with central letttering spelling out “POSTCARDS” within keylines. geometric border. One side ofthe main box with geometric banding. Dedication “R.A.S.B TONBRIDGE AUGUST 1884 from Lucy Whitebreads”

Condition : Excellent. minor superficial wear. no missing tesserae

Lettering on Tunbridge ware was originated by Henry Hollamb. Boyce. Brown & Kemp were also known for producing the lettering in relatively large quantities. This box. however. represents something or a rareity in that. given the presence of green oak in the design. it was almost certainly made by Thomas Barton. probably under his own steam as an independant manufacturer. although possibly under Edmund Nye.
