Decoration : Low rectangular writing stand with four canted sides. a curved recess for pens and two square reserves for ink wells – both of which are present. with their screw-fitting brass lids; there is a broad floral band around the canted edges. and a a narrower. less well defined one to the edge of the top surface; stands on four bun feet; paper lining to the ink-well reserves and to the base

Condition : Excellent; a very few missing tesserae; bumps and bruises commensurate with age and use; ink-wells clean and undamaged; the sections of the base have separated over time. which has torn the lining paper. and that to one of the reserves is a little worn

Note : This was made by Boyce. Brown and Kemp. as we have seen a near-identical version bearing their label; that version did. however. have a small rectangular recess between the ink-wells which accommodated a stamp box.
