Heading : A Very Fine Tunbridge Ware Writing Slope
Date : c1850 and possibly a little earlier
Period : Victoria
Origin : Edmund Nye. Tunbridge Wells. England
Decoration : The upper panel with key has a field of isometric cubes with a fine geometric border. The lower panel has a field of isometric cubes with a ‘Van Dyke’ border with a futher geometric pattern frame. The interior has an embossed and gilded leather cover on the slope. Oroginal paper on the base
Size : 35.5cm x 25.8 and maximim height 9.8cm
Condition : Excellent. There is a short crack in the van Dyke Border. No missing tesserae.
Restoration : Professionally cleaned and polished. A new key has been made to fit the existing lock
Weight : 1826 grams
Notes : This unlabelled piece has all the hallmarks of an example of Edmund Nye’s work at the time when his working relationship with Thomas Barton had started to mature; This is a more accomplished design than those used by the partnership during earlier years
