This tea caddy is a stunning example of 19th century cabinet making. The rosewood body is beautifully inlaid with foliate borders in burr walnut marquetry. Inside there are a pair of removable tea caddies. both with brass piano hinges and the remains of their original zinc liners. The cut glass mixing bowl is diamond cut with an oblique border rim and star cut base.
The marquetry is of a style unique to Robert Russell. one of the most significant Tunbridge ware producers.
The lid closes perfectly and the mother of pearl escutcheoned lock is still in working order. Bring back the true ceremony of tea drinking with this stunning piece.
