Heading : A Tunbridge Ware Sewing Box depicting Tonbridge Castle

Origin : Tunbridge Wells. Kent
Decoration : Cushion topped with an image of Tonbridge Castle set in golden Satinwood within Banded and Continuous Keylines and a Floral Berlin Wool-work border. To the four concave sides. a band of Oak Leaves and Acorns within Banded and Continuous Keylines; rounded stickware escutcheon to the keyhole; rosewood body. with pale green silk lining. Internal dividers/compartments are absent.
Size : 23.6 cm wide x 18.7 cm deep x 10.5 cm high
Condition : Excellent; slight cracks to lacquer on top face; very few missing tesserae; working key; the satin lining is not original. There is a crack across the full width of the base. but this does not adversely affect the stability of the piece in the slightest and it remains solid and rigid.
Restoration : Extremely minimal; one patch of around eight missing. contiguous tesserae seems to have been filled. sanded and lacquered and another patch of ten look to have been repaired/replaced. A few minor imperfections to the extremities but nothing that is not to be expected The box has been professionally cleaned and polished.
