Heading : A Tunbridge Ware Sewing Box depicting Hever Castle

Origin : Tunbridge Wells. Kent
Decoration : Cushion topped with an image of Hever Castle set in golden Satinwood within Banded and Continuous Keylines and a Floral Berlin Wool-work border. To the four concave sides. a further wide floral band within Banded and Continuous Keylines; rounded stickware escutcheon to the keyhole; Bird’s Eye Maple body. with pale green silk lining. Internal dividers/compartments are absent.
Size : 26.7 cm wide x 21.7 cm deep x 10.5 cm high
Condition : Very good; slight cracks to lacquer on top face; very few missing tesserae; working key; the satin lining is not original. The hinged edge of the lid has warped and the three parts are now misaligned. but this would appear to be a very old defect and is now stable.
Restoration : None other than possibly some old conservation work to the lid hinge-edge as above; The box has been professionally cleaned and polished.
