Decoration : A turned stickware box with ribbed finish; the screw-top lid has a simple geometric mosaic pattern; remains of label to base (see below)
Size : 4.2 cm tall x 3.3 cm diameter lid x 2.2 cm internal diameter
Condition : Very good; closes tightly. but has a small triangular nick out of one of the lid edging tiles
Restoration : none
Weight :  14 grams

Notes : Uses for a box of this nature are speculative – matches. needles. coins perhaps (the box would have been a perfect fit for the farthings issued from 1821 to 1860); similar items have pincushion inserts – all are possible; the circular label to the base. of which only about a sixth remains. is absolutely typical of the type used by both Edmund Nye and Thomas Barton around the date quoted above. but the relative simplicity of the geometric pattern is more indicative of the former of these two
