Eric Knowles Comments
The Legras glassworks proved to be a highly successful concern during the late19th and early 20th century that called upon the talents of several hundred employees at the St Denis glassworks located in the suburbs of Paris.
Founded by Francois Theodore Legras .who had worked as a woodsman in the Vosges region close to Strasbourg. this hand enamelled vase offers an obvious understanding and empathy with that same area of woodland. The simple freehand composition of autumn achieves an understated effect whilst other versions were available that featured the other seasons.
All their art glass was signed as in this stunning example. the finest I have seen for many years.
