Additional Information :
After the First World War the style of Legras art glass changed rapidly. There was a sharp decline in the production of high cost cameo glass and a corresponding increase in enameling. This particular vase suggests the influence of husband and wife artist and textile designer Robert and Sonia Delaunay whilst the strong Russian Constructivist elements advocated by Alexander Rodchenko and evident in the textile designs of Liubov Popova cannot be ignored. The Russian Pavilion at the Paris exposition of 1925 reflected the strong use of geometric elements whilst Sonia Delaunay’s textile designs attracted much critical acclaim.
Consequently we consider this vase with its bold abstract enameling to be of landmark status and of a type we have not encountered in the previous decade of handling countless examples of Legras and other French art glass
