Eric Knowles Comments
The ‘Coquilles’ range of tableware was probably the most extensive of Lalique’s repertoire and possibly the most well received.
The size and the fact that the rim has a French silver rim suggests that this was originally intended to be a salad bowl and would probably have been retailed with a pair of silver servers also by Lagriffoul and Laval.
What is debatable is wether the ensemble was retailed by Lalique or the Paris silversmiths as it was usually the latter in most other instances not only with glassmakers but potters such as Wedgwood and Adams in the UK.
