The year 1939 is is best remembered for other matters. Despite the storm gathering in the East and during the last six years of his life René Lalique continued to produce astonishing vases. The design of this vase. sumptuously deco and yet reminiscent of classical design. is a testament to the Lalique’s longevity as a designer. This particular vase was produced after the war when Marc Lalique resumed control of the Lalique factory after it had been in the hands of the occupying Nazis from 1940-1945
Eric Knowles Comments
This vase designed in Lalique’s twilight years. he died in May 1939. shows that his talent for inventive design had not lost any of his creative genius despite the years. My only regret is that it was never made on a larger scale. even so this particular vase commands no shortage of ‘Wow’ factor
