Marks : etched to base R LALIQUE – FRANCE; Marcilhac reference number is 3308
Type : hemispherical bowl with flattened base; gently chamfered edges to inside and outside of rim
Size : 20.7 cm diameter at the rim and 8.5 cm high
Condition : Excellent; there are three tiny irregularities to the inside edge of the rim to be felt rather than seen. and a very few insignificant bubble inclusions from manufacture

Additional Information : ‘oursin’ is French for sea urchin – generally spiked – and has passed in to later colloquial use to refer to a ball of barbed wire. deployed in WW2. and a military hat; the hat is in the typical ‘grenadier’ style. which we would refer to in the UK as bearskins – this gives some credence to the derivation of the word being cognate with ‘ursine’ or bear-like. Lalique used the same name for a coupe ouverte (MH 3310) and a plate (MH 10-3041)
