Eric Knowles Comments
The peacock has been an exotic design source from even before Tudor times but found even greater favour in the last quarter of the 19th century amongst designers involved in both the Aesthetic and Arts and Crafts movements. Lalique uses the symmetry of the feathers to great effect in this radiating design allied with the use of opalescence substituting for the original iridescence to good effect.
