Features : The hollow body is formed using twisted filigree canes of different colour-ways. The vertical pattern is ‘split’ by horizontal canes giving the piece its name.

Additional Information : This is an original concept piece and one of the first ‘penguins’ that Mike ever produced. it was only after the glass was blown and finished that the penguin concept emerged and evolved.
A later example was created for the Bergstrom-Mahler Museum exhibit “Big Ideas/Small Packages: Magnificent Glass Under 20” displayed November 1. 2008-February 21. After the exhibition a range was produced in different colour-ways which included small spectacles which sit atop the vase made of wire and cut canes.
Mike has been evolving his techniques since he was a boy of 17. working at Wedgewood Glass. Perthshire Paperweights and Welsh Royal Crystal. He became a master himself after training under other master glassblowers from the UK. Italy. Austria. Germany and Scandinavia.
