SOLD – Irish Lidded Glass Jar c1790

Description

A very pleasing Irish lidded jar c1790. The original lid has a mushroom finial and cross cut diamonds. The bowl has an everted rim with slice cuts and cross cut diamonds above a thick flanged foot with polished pontil. This will have been used for honey. mustard or other such comestibles at the table. The finial is typical of production from 1780 to 1800 . later examples tending to have terraced square feet. A similar example in the museum of Ireland is attributed to Mulvaney Dublin. The weight of this piece lends to its stability and is perfectly suited to period dining.

Lead glass. no chips or cracks. the rim of the bowl has been polished prior to it being consigned to us. but this is not to the detriment of the aesthetics or it’s useability. It measures 6 inches tall and 3 ½ inches in diameter.
