The RK in queation was a gentleman by the name of Robert Kerr of Kersland. a hamlet in Dalry. North Ayrshire Scotland. The story of the Clan Ker ( later spelled Kerr) and the Baronetcy is a fascinating one that includes everything from Flodden to Mary Queen of Scotts. They were a prominent reiver family as were many on the south of the border. The reivers would raid farms and isolated hamlets either side of the border and steal anything portable of value and livestock. They would also turn their hand to kidnap and extortion.
This persisted from the 14th century into the 18th century and for the reiver the border did not exist. They were united by family ties both sides of the border and this was not restricted to any social class. it was a family business even when the head may be a knight of the realm of clan chief.
Lord Robert Kerr supported the Government at Culloden and not the clans and was unfortunately killed. He was a known freemason !
