Eric Knowles Comments : This splendid jug was made in Gouda by the Plateelbakkerij Zuid Holland (PZH) that was founded in 1898. The harmony of the form and design show an allegiance to the Art Nouveau style that proved popular across the western world from about 1890 before waning in about 1910.
The "Little House" mark on the base actually represents the entrance to the former leper hospital in Gouda dating itself 1609. The archway survives to this day as the entrance to the Gouda Museum. Contemporary manufacturers in the Netherlands producing similar wares include Rozenburg in The Hague and the Arnhem Faience pottery.
Every bit as good as Moorcroft and very underrated.
