Heading : A Tortoiseshell and Mother of Pearl Victorian Visiting Card Case

Origin : Birmingham. England or possibly Madras (now Chennai) India
Decoration : Original red velvet lining to both parts (hinged top and bottom); inlaid floral design in mother of pearl to both sides; working push-catch closure; oval in section with an un-engraved. small metal plaque to one short edge
Size : 10.4 x 7.9 x 1.1 cms
Condition : Good; very minor loss to the mother of pearl veneer; minor damage to tortoiseshell at one corner; lateral 10mm split to one long edge. two x 45mm cracks to the long edge either side of the hinge which join near the top; the four joins between the three pieces of tortoiseshell. the full depth of the larger. bottom section. have lost their inlaid decorative strips of wood. which are still present in the top part
Restoration : All the cracks have been repaired and stablised some time ago
