A 4pp printed programme/score sheet for the above referenced baseball game. played at Stamford Bridge as part of the 1913-14 World Baseball Tour.
The two teams embarked on their 30.000 mile odyssey in October 1913. returning home in March of the following year having visited thirteen countries. This was the last game of the tour and was played in front of King George V; the White Sox won 5-4 in a game which went to 10 innings. Although the teams took the names of the two teams as given. they were essentially ‘select squads’ picked from a variety of other clubs and named for the clubs owned by the two organisers of the tour – Charles A Comiskey and John McGraw of the White Sox and Giants respectively. However. two of the ‘proper’ White Sox players who are named in the programme – Tommy Daly and Buck Weaver – went on to achieve notoriety as participants in the 1919 ‘Black Sox’ scandal which saw the team disgraced by throwing the World Series against the Cincinnati Reds in a gambling scam.
