Bowl cut from Castleton Fluorspar showing banding and a pale lilac hue in certain light. The stem cut from rare fault Vein Breccia comprised of Fluorspar/Galena and Baryte from Bakewell and the foot from Tiger-stone or Hattrel from Bradwell moor.
All these beautiful specimen materials were extensively worked. used and carved into ornamental objects along with the better known “Blue-John” variety by some of most noted Derbyshire craftsmen of the 18th and early 19th century.
Objects made from them can be seen at many important locations such Chatsworth House. Windsor Castle. Buckingham Palace. The V&A and the Natural History Museum to name a few.
