Carl Linnaeus was a biologist. taxonomist and physician born in Sweden in 1707. He is most famous for formalising binomial nomenclature (literally means two named method of arrangement) using the genus and species by which all living things are now categorised using Latin to stop ambiguity. for example a Robin in Britain is quite a different bird in America. He was in fact the first scientist to classify man as an animal. It was ground breaking in its day and greatly honoured for his work. He died at the age of 70 in 1778.
