Heading : A bone scrimshaw pipe
Date : c1806-1823

Decoration : Engraved with compas rose on base of the bowl. ” SHIP ROSE” . Roses and flags in saltire and entwines hearts. A whaling harpoon on the stem and a rose on the mouthpiece.
Size :  Length 16.5cms
Condition : Very good.

Weight :  22 grams 

The ship Rose was built in Liverpool. Following the slave trade act she was sold and repurposed as a whaling ship. The ship appears in the Lloyds register between 1806 and 1823. This was never intended to be used. the stem is not hollow. it was just a means to whittle away the hours. This is made from bone
