Eric Knowles Comments:

The underglaze blue crossed swords featuring pommels was used from 1850 into the early years of the 20th century despite the fine and detailed moulding on this plate upon initial inspection being indicative of 18th century manufacture

The inclusion of Lily of the Valley as a motif was popular both on ceramics and glass from about 1860 to 1890 however Meissen are known to have featured the flower on plates as early as 1817. This is a stunning plate.
