The Hille factory was founded by Salomon Hille in 1906 with the aim of producing replica 18th century furniture. In the early 1930s the company was joined by his daughter Ray Hille who assumed control in 1932. Ray then began to focus on original art deco designs. In 1940 the factory and stores were destroyed by the Luftwaffe. A new factory was opened in 1951 in Watford.
