With the exception of the chemist John Hill who was hired from Stourbridge the key personnel within the Waterford Glass Company were Irish born. To refer to the output from Penrose. Gatchell. Walpole and the other principals as ‘Anglo-Irish’ is wholly inappropriate. Glass made in Ireland by an Irish national is Irish glass even if if were made during the anglo-irish period of the protestant ascendancy.
