Additional Information : This is an exceptionally rare mid 18th century decanter. The stopper is a later replacement which has been made in the original style and fits perfectly. Good grey metal with fine soot particles and inclusions within and excellent tooling marks. You can see an example of the decanter on Plate 156 page 109 of ‘The Decanter An Illustrated History of Glass from 1650’ by Andy McConnell where he described the decanter as ‘Rare mid 18th century beehive decanter of a type used for colourful cordials’. The stopper has been made for this decanter at some point in the past and is a slightly brighter. Most would simply not notice. This however demonstrates just how cherished this decanter has been. The style of stopper is correct. in keeping with the original. This is however reflected in the price.
