Description
An excellent Georgian covered jar which remarkably still has its original lid. they are so often lost or broken. An excellent dark grey colour indicative of high lead content with a cut finial. slice. diamond and prism cutting. These are often referred to as “honey jars” and were intended for table use. This shape was produced in both Waterford and Belfast and there are many documented examples. however the band of cutting is often referred to as a “Belfast Field”. This may well have been manufactured in Waterford with the cutting being dome externally. or made and cut in Belfast.
The lid has a single square cut for a spoon and it has a round star or “ray” cut foot. Good wear to the foot and a few minor nibbles/grazes as expected. Would make a welcome addition to any dining table and add lots of period appeal.
It measures 6 inches tall and 3 1/8 inch diameter.
