Description
A fine Georgian Glass Wine Funnel c1800
It has an Ogee bowl and measures approx 5 inches tall with a 2 3/4 inches in diameter. The funnel is curved to ensure that wine runs down the inner wall of a decanter. or carafe. maximising the surface area for better aeration. The straight funnels were used for cullinary purposes. Muslin would be placed in the cup to trap and sediments in wine and port. Survivors in silver are relatively common and some have a perforated inner ring that would support the muslin. Glass wine funnels are very rare survivors.
English lead. no chips cracks or restoration.
