There is more to a gin bottle you than meets the eye. Jenever, Hollands , Dutch gin, call it what you may was widely used as collateral in 18th century trade. The bottles were made to stack efficiently within the holds of ships. Gin, guns and cloth were the most frequently used barter goods for traders in Britain and Portugal engaged in the slave trade.
