Description
A superb piece of Nailsea glass dating to around 1830 and in the shape of a Horn (which actually works).
We have seen this shape described as a hearing . to be held to the ear and this may well be true. however. it is generally considered that these items are simply ‘Friggers’ and made by the glass blowers to show off their skills at the end of the day. We have been advised that a whole range of different instruments were made and used during parades so you could have a full band with different glass instruments. this does however seem spurious.
It is a superb dark Bristol Green in colour with pulled feather white and a thickened rim. English lead. no chips cracks or restoration. it measures approx. 9 ½ inches long.
