To prevent splitting it is better for custard to be cooled slowly. Ceramic retains heat far better than glass and the narrow trumpet shape of this glass would not be conducive to slow cooling. quite the opposite. The vast majority of 18th century table wares intended for custards were ceramic and were broad or baluster shaped. Jelly is best set quickly. hence glass and narrow trumpet shapes. If you prefer to use this for an irish coffee then go right ahead there are no rules.
