Adolf Frederick was a constitutional King installed on the throne after the abject failure of the Russo-Swedish war. A number of attempts were made to reistate him as absolute monach and all failed. The initial expectations that he would lead Sweden back to military glory in the region were forlon within a few years of his coronation and the metaphor of this engraving left meaningless.
