SOLD – Dutch Engraved Colour Twist c1760

Description

A Dutch engraved wine glass c1760 which has been beautifully engraved with a sunflower and moth. In brief we all know that sunflowers follow the sun. the source of light and that moths are deemed to represent the “returning soul” whose Jacobite credentials do not need to be reiterated. It has a bell bowl above a double knopped colour twist stem consisting of two pairs of red and white spiral tapes outside a central gauze column. Conical foot with snapped pontil.

The glass has a small bruise on the rim and a section of the foot has been polished as shown in the photographs (8 o’clock on the picture of the foot). This has been reflected in the price.

It measures 6 inches tall with a 2 1/2 inch bowl and 2 7/8 inch foot.
