Description
A Georgian mercury air twist wine glass c1755.
This glass comes with provenance. a receipt form MacAdam antique glass dealers of Edinburgh dated February 1989 showing the sale to a known collector in Tyne and Wear for £180. I never had a chance to meet Bill but he had a great reputation and an excellent client base but retired some years ago.
The glass has a bell bowl that has a beautifully engraved rim. featuring swags of flowers and foliage in the rococo style. The stem has a pair of mercury air twist corkscrews and it sits on a conical foot with snapped pontil. The underside of the foot has a small flake that measures 1/4 inch long and 1/8th inches deep. This does not detract from the display quality of the glass. It is a stunner. In perfect condition this glass would sell for £350. If you wish this to be restored then we may arrange this for you. It stands a little over 5 1/2 inches tall with a 2 1/8th inch bowl and a 2 1/2 inch foot.
