Description
A Georgian air twist wine with a round funnel bowl above a double series air twist stem consisting of a mercury spiral threads outside a multi spiral column. Conical foot snapped pontil.
English lead glass. no chips or cracks. without any doubt the foot has been reduced and polished in the past. The foot is still bigger than the bowl and it is still a very pleasing glass. There are many indications that this has been done. the most obvious being the wear on the foot extending inside the wear rim of the foot. this would be most irregular occurrence on a period conical foot. In excellent order similar glasses command prices upwards of five hundred pounds. so this represents excellent value for the collector. It still galls me that time and again our customers are not advised of these facts when buying elsewhere. either through the inexperience of the vendor or deliberate inexactitudes.
It measures 6 1/8 inches tall with a 2 1/8 inch bowl and 2 ½ inch foot.
An interesting footnote. For air/mercury twists. the double series is rarer than the single series. The opposite is true for opaque twists where the single series is the less frequently seen form.
