Description
A very unusual example of a Georgian Mercury Twist Wine glass c 1750.
It has a round funnel bowl above a double series mercury twist stem consisting of a pair of mercury corkscrews outside a vertical mercury thread. Conical foot snapped pontil.
English lead. no chips cracks or restoration. it measures 5 1/8 inches tall with a 1 15/16 inch bowl and 2 3/8 inch foot.
The first example of such a twist we have offered for sale and the glass would be technically classified as a “short wine”.
A very fine example of an unusual specimen in superb condition.
