Description
A superb air twist wine glass usually attributed to the Edinburgh & Leith Flint glass company in the north of Edinburgh. Scotland c.1820. It has a flared round funnel bowl a with a triple annulated collar. Its sits on a baluster shaped multi spiral airt twist stem above a conical foot with a snapped pontil. Similar forms of wine glass with opaque twist stems and single and double annular collars are generally attributed to Edinburgh 1800-1830. The glassworks was a late comer to the manufacturing of luxury goods. It was founded in 1773 to manufacture bottles to support the importation of wine and did not start to produce drinking glasses until the final years of the century.
Lead glass. no chips cracks or restoration. it measures 6 ¾ inches tall with a 2 13/16 inch bowl and 2 15/16 inch foot.
