A bell bowl example of very similar height may be found in “The Golden Age of English Glass”- Dwight Lanmon p115 with a date range given of 1700-1720. Grant Francis in “Old English Drinking Glasses” also has the same date range as does Hartshorne. We favour a later date as we contend that there was a more gradual transition in fashion from heavier forms of baluster wine glass to lighter forms such as this. An almost identical glass other than the tear in the bae of the bowl may be seen in “English Table Glass”- Percy Bate plate 111. Also see English and Irish Glass- W A Thorpe . figure 8 in the 1927 publication. where the ” man from the V & A” describes the bowl form as being transitional between rounded funnel bowls of early balusters and the incurved bowls ( he also refers to these as “German” bowls. we know as bell bowls) and again gives earlier dates.
