Description

The egg or ovoid knop is probably the rarest knop form of all in the Baluster period and of the 12 or so examples recorded in the literature this one is regarded by many as having the finest representation of the Egg .to quote Delomosne’s comment in “the Baluster Family” . “it seems difficult to incorporate the form in a stem with success.Often the result is unsatisfactory.clearly not the case with this example which has a round funnel bowl with markedly solid base and a well placed small tear .the egg also contains a tear.the whole standing on a folded conical foot
