Description
One of only three known examples. this is a very rare large heavy baluster wine glass goblet c 1710.
It has an unusual narrow conical bowl with solid base with an air tear. The stem has an angular collar above a large ball knop and basal knop. The glass stands on a conical folded foot.
English lead. no chips cracks or restoration. it measures an impressive 7 3/8 inches tall with a 3 1/16 inch bowl and 3 3 /8 inch foot.
We know of only two other documented examples.
The first is over an inch smaller and can be seen in “The Golden Age of English Glass” by D Lanmon (ex curator of The Corning Museum of Glass) where he notes that only one other comparable glass of this rare form could be found (again a smaller example). and that is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art in new York. our second known example.

This glass is a previously unrecorded example and the tallest of the three that are now known. This has resided with a private collector in England for many years and has been cherished. It is in immaculate condition
