Condition : Excellent. no chips or cracks; very minimal bubbles and manufacturing inclusions to the bowl; a small piece of residual clinker in the stem. along with a larger deposit of potash or lime which is just protruding through the surface

The jay is a direct reference to Aesops fable of the Jay and the Peacock and in this context metaphor for the usurpation. One has to appreciate that in the 18th and 19th centuries the educated would be far more familiar with the slaves tales. Homer and other classical literature than we are today.
