Single bud glasses have been widely discussed within the standard literature. The widely accepted interpretation is that this depicts the last hommage to the Stuarts following the death of Charles Edward Stuart. The glass predates this by some 40 years and thus if the interpretation is to be believed then this was engraved many years after manufacture.
