As all those collecting antique drinking glasses are aware they were frequently engraved withe depictions of the ingredients that were used to produce the beverage for which they were intended.
This was clearly intended for an aromatised wine. such as Vermouth which has been imported into England from Italy since the 18th century. There were also numerous published recipes for wines infused with spices. flowers and seeds
