Description
An 18th century hollow stem balustroid wine glass c1750.
Following the imposition of the glass tax in 1746 one means to reduce the weight of a glass was to introduce hollow stems. Folded feet also became less prevalent after the introduction of the tax. The glass has a round funnel bowl above an angular collar with an annular knop at the midpoint of the stem. Conical folded foot. snapped pontil.
English lead. no chips. cracks or restoration. It has a tiny burst air bubble on the inside of the bowl.
It measures 5 5/8 inche stall with a 2 inch bowl and 2 13/16 inch foot.
