A funnel bowl set directly into a conical foot was also typical of much earlier flutes from the late 17th and early 18th century. You will find glasses of this form described as both ale glasses and champagne glasses. The purpose of some “flute” glasses was only denoted by their engraving. hops and barley for ale and vine leaves and grapes for sparkling wines and apple trees for cider and they will be identical in every other regard. This flute does not convey it’s purpose via the embellishments. but they it will be ideal for sparkling wines.
