Description
This is a most unusual and highly desirable facet cut glass and is an early example from c1760 and possibly earlier.
The metal is dark when compared to many period facet cut glasses which have a propensity to be brighter. It has a large round funnel bowl that has petal cuts at the base of the bowl the upper edge being most prominent as there are smaller deeper cuts just above. The stem has been slice cut into a hexagonal form. “Alternate” edges of the stem have then been notch cut (the pictures have the illusion that its every edge that is cut but it is alternate edges). The net result is that the stem refracts the light to yield three differing visual effects as it is rotated. The Conical foot also has petal cuts that are a continuation of the slice cuts to the stem. Snapped pontil
English lead. it stands 6 5/8th inches tall with a 2 3/8th bowl and a 3 inch foot. The glass has all the period features that collectors require. This really is one for the collector’s cabinet. and the first we have had for sale with this style of cutting.
